OUR STORY

Agricole Farm Stop began as a vision shared by a group of committed community members. Despite being surrounded by vibrant farmland, Chelsea lacked consistent, year-round access to locally grown food. Inspired by Argus Farm Stop in Ann Arbor, four passionate partners set out to change that.

They saw potential in the long-abandoned Mack Building in downtown Chelsea — and brought it back to life. In 2019, Agricole Farm Stop opened its doors in that restored space, offering the community something it had long been missing: a year-round farmers market rooted in local connection and care.

From the beginning, Agricole has been about more than food. It's about creating spaces where people can connect — with each other, with the land, and with the people who grow their food. Within Agricole, you’ll find welcoming third spaces: a café serving locally roasted coffee, tea, and fresh pastries; an art gallery highlighting local creativity; and an incubator kitchen that supports the growth of small food businesses.

In traditional supermarkets, farmers typically receive only 15 cents of every dollar spent. At Agricole, we turn that model on its head. Through a 75/25 consignment system, farmers earn 75% of each sale — selling under their own names, at prices they choose. This approach honors the labor and knowledge of local growers while fostering direct connections between producers and the community.

Together, we’re cultivating a more resilient, people-centered food system.
One season at a time.
