Agricole is a vibrant agricultural and community hub opened in 2019 by a collective of founders local to Chelsea, Michigan.
Inspired by Argus in nearby Ann Arbor, Agricole is a “Farm Stop,” a business model gaining national attention for its success in the areas of local food access and small farm support.
Third Space
Defined as ‘a social surrounding separate from your home and workplace,’ one goal of a farm stop is to cultivate a welcoming ‘third space’ for community engagement while functioning as a farmer’s market that is open every day. Agricole is a thriving coffee shop featuring locally roasted beans, fresh pastries from nearby bakeries, communal seating, free wifi, and a seasonal patio.

Relationships with local farmers are maintained through a unique consignment model that pays the grower 75% of each sale, a rate much more favorable than a traditional supermarket. Products are sold under the farmer’s own name at prices they choose. This approach honors the labor and knowledge of local growers while fostering direct connections between producers and the community.
