Not exactly. Though we prioritize local goods and (some) democracy in store decision making, Agricole requires no “buy-in” and is not owned in shares by community members or shoppers. There is no membership and no fee structure for perks or tiers.
Agricole’s business licensure is categorized L3C, or Low-profit Limited Liability Company.

Agricole is French for agricultural. It is pronounced with no affectation, ending in ‘cole’ sounding like “Cole Porter.”

Agricole prepares no food on site. We lack the licensure, infrastructure, and budget to run a full-service restaurant, but we compensate by offering a wide selection of pastries delivered from local bakeries and a refrigerated section of prepared foods from area delis, commissaries, and restaurants. Wraps, sandwiches, salads, curries, overnight oats, pot pies, and desserts are available on an average day. There are vegetarian and vegan options.

The accelerator kitchen was conceived during the coronavirus pandemic, when to-go and delivered food reached apex popularity.
It continues as a shared-use commissary kitchen that is licensed by MDARD and rentable on a fee structure. Individual vendors prep food in this kitchen, sometimes for sale at Agricole and sometimes intended for off-site events or food trucks.

Agricole can only sell eggs from USDA/MDARD inspected farms, due to stipulations in our retail licensing.
Farms with fewer than 3,000 hens are exempt from these rules when selling direct-to-consumer, so we do offer the option of hosting a pop-up in store to sell your eggs (or anything relevant to our shop) directly to customers. Click here to learn more about pop-ups.
